2024 The Year of the Dragon
SERPENTINE DESTINY- IMAGE DETAIL FROM UXMAL TEMPLE, MAYAN LANDS, 2015
THIS YEAR INHERENTLY CALLS FOR THE GATHERING OF DRAGONS. SOMETHING TOLD ME BACK IN 2015 TO TAKE A SOLO JOURNEY TO THE LANDS OF MY ANCESTORS. I HAD BOUGHT A ROUNDTRIP FLIGHT TO CANCUN, AND PLANNED TO VISIT AS MANY MAYAN TEMPLES AS POSSIBLE THROUGHOUT THE YUCATAN PENINSULA, A PART OF MÉXICO WHERE I DIDN’T KNOW A SOUL. ALL MY FAMILY CONNECTIONS WERE IN THE NORTH (SONORA) + THE BIG CITIES OF GUADALAJARA & MEXICO CITY.
WAS I CRAZY? THIS WAS MY FIRST REAL TRAVEL ALONE, AS A WOMAN IN MY TWENTIES, WITH A GUT KNOWING I NEEDED JOURNEY, EXPLORE, AND FLOW IN THE LANDS OF SOME ANCESTORS OF MINE (MAYA). MY INTENTION WAS TO WITNESS A LUNAR BLOOD MOON ECLIPSE ON TULUM’S WATERS, THE CARIBBEAN SEA HOLDING ME FOR HOURS AS THE MOON SLOWLY TRANSFORMED.
2 WEEKS WAS DESTINED TO EXTEND TO AN ENTIRE MONTH, AND I ALMOST COULDN’T LEAVE THE JUNGLE OF PALENQUE WHEN I FINALLY RECEIVED MY SCHOOL PLACEMENT EMAIL WHILST IN MY JUNGLE BUNGALOW. ACQUIRING MY SPANISH VISA BACK IN LOS ANGELES WAS THE RIGHT DECISION, THOUGH THE TIMING WAS SOMEWHAT INCONVENIENT, AS MY DESIRE TO STAY IN MEXICO AND KEEP FOLLOWING THE BREAD CRUMBS WAS SO STRONG.
DID I MENTION THAT IT WAS IN MEXICO (IN 2015) THAT I TASTED MY FIRST REAL CACAO?
THE REST OF THE STORY HAS UNFOLDED WILDLY FROM HERE.
